Second slider

Having functional minerals produced by IMI Fabi become increasingly important in everyday life, the Group has consequently developed innovative products able to improve performance, reduce waste and C02 emissions.

In the context of its commitment towards a sustainable business model to lead responsible talc production, IMI Fabi has started introducing automation and electrification of processes, in line with the European objectives set for 2030. IMI Fabi has therefore decided to gradually dismiss fossil fuels used in underground mining for its equipment. To this end, the new Epiroc ST14 loader represents an essential first step towards zero CO2 and other pollutants emissions inside the mine with tangible benefits for the workplace.

Built for demanding underground applications, the compact and highly productive, zero-emission Scooptram ST14 Battery allows to work in the toughest conditions without exposure to diesel particulates and toxic gases, so its electric regeneration and powertrain limits energy consumption, especially in presence of slopes.

Introduction

Environmental issues have always been at the forefront of IMI FABI GROUP’s strategic planning both in terms of minimizing the impacts on the environment and ensuring a responsible use of natural resources, as well as harmonious integration into the surroundings and encouraging close collaboration with local communities. The commissioning of the brand new Scooptram ST14 Battery Epiroc Electric front-end loader, which implements electro-mobility inside the mine, aims to be the first in a series of interventions that IMI FABI intends to implement in its production lines to promote new industrial processes capable of creating value for the company and the territory without impacting the environment. Aimed at loading, transporting and unloading material for underground works, it is among the first battery-electric powered vehicles active in underground mining operations in Europe: the new Epiroc ST14 front-end loader represents an essential first step, toward zero emissions of CO2 and other pollutants in mining for IMI FABI.

Actions

Investments on the Scooptram ST14 Battery, a 100% fossil-free loader for underground application, which is designed to optimize the production, since its cutting-edge technology is performing, safe, silent, comfortable and with zero-emissions. Overall, the use of the Scooptram ST14 Battery results in a safer and healthier underground working environment. This contributes to a sustainable future and a smaller environmental.

Results

Main benefits:

Zero emission – A battery-driven electric fleet provides a powerful opportunity to minimize the environmental footprint and create a healthier work environment. So this new asset means zero exposure for the work force for diesel particulates, and toxic gases such as nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide (NOx, HC and CO). Being fossil-free, this machine makes a difference when it comes to carbon footprint and greenhouse gases.

Significant cost savings – Battery-powered electric machinery brings savings on operational costs, including expenditures related to ventilation, cooling and operator health
